A major rail infrastructure maintainer was seeking to establish a new period contract for provision of routine automated NDT inspection services for their rail assets.  Thorburn has been engaged to prepare the technical specification and provide tender evaluation services for the rail and ultrasonics engineering requirements to be used in the tendering process. 

Challenging aspects of the engagement have been the development and implementation of a quantitative methodology for comparing and rating the performance of varying technologies and complex systems offered by tenderers.
